Our Mission

Being directed by God, Union Christian Academy is committed to educating our children in biblical values, character development and academic excellence. We acknowledge this can only be achieved through obedience to our Lord with prayers, support and cooperation of the families, Christian churches and communities in Union Parish.

Our History

In the fall of 2000, Union Christian Academy began as our Lord placed a burden on the hearts of seven families in Union Parish.  In March of 2000 these families met to share their concerns for the children of their community and prayed for guidance concerning the opening of a Christian school in Union Parish.  Through answered prayer, the Lord continued to expand this group and open doors of opportunity that would allow Union Christian Academy to become a reality.  In May of 2000, the Lord provided the use of facilities at Crestview Baptist Church.  In the fall of that year, our enrollment was 34 students.  Within two years our enrollment had outgrown the facilities at Crestview, and UCA purchased the former Lakeview Nursing Home on West Hill Street.  The summer of 2003 was consumed with converting one wing of the 26,000 square foot facility from a nursing care facility into a primary school.  Some walls were removed, others were painted, floors were carpeted, and chalkboards were installed.  The new home of Union Christian Academy was opened in the fall of 2003 to a record 141 students from grades K3 through 7.  By the end of the summer of 2004, a second wing was converted and renovated, and finally a third wing was finished in time for the 2005-06 school year.

Adjacent property to the facility was donated by Farmerville businessman Don Barron, and construction on the high school and Pride Assembly Center was begun.  By the fall of 2006, enrollment set a seventh consecutive record as UCA opened the door to 325 students in grades K3 through 10.

In the Spring of 2007, UCA achieved another milestone in its young history by receiving an official approval by the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE), opening the door for qualifying graduates of UCA to be eligible for the Tuition Opportunity Program for Students (TOPS) scholarships.  Approval by the state of Louisiana for non-public schools is equivalent to accreditation in the state's public systems.

UCA is selective in the hiring of its Christian educators.  All of our teachers in grades kindergarten through high school are approved by the state of Louisiana.  These high standards and state approval will be the springboard by which UCA will seek other certifications and accreditations.

Our students are given the Stanford Achievement Tests, a standardized assessment measuring the effectiveness of our curriculum and their comprehension of it.  UCA students consistently score in the top 30 percentile in the nation.  UCA is a place where Christian values and academic excellence go hand in hand.

Statement of Faith

1.      We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative, inerrant Word of God (2 Timothy 3:15, 2 Peter 1:21).

2.      We believe there is only one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Genesis 1:1, Matthew 28:19, John 10:30).

3.      We believe in the deity of Christ (John 10:33);
    His virgin birth (
Isaiah 7:14, Matthew 1:23, Luke 1:35
);
    His sinless life (
Hebrews 4:15
);
    His miracles (
John 2:22
);
    His vicarious and atoning death (
1 Corinthians 15:3, Ephesians 1:7, Hebrews 2:9
);
    His resurrection (
John 11:25, 1 Corinthians 15:4
);
    His ascension to the right had of the Father (
Mark 16:19
);
    His personal return in power and glory (
Acts 1:11, Revelation 19:11).

4.      We believe in the absolute necessity of regeneration by the Holy Spirit for Salvation because of the exceeding sinfulness of human nature; and that men are justified on the single ground of faith in the shed blood of Christ and that only by God’s grace through faith alone we are saved (John 3:16-19, John 5:24, Romans 3:23, Ephesians 2:8-10, Titus 3:5).

5.      We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life; and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation (John 5:28-29).

6.      We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 8:9, 1 Corinthians 12:12-13, Galatians 3:26-28).

7.      We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life (Romans 8:13-14, 1 Corinthians 3:16, 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, Ephesians 4:30, Ephesians 5:18).

These statements of faith are important to our school and serve as the foundation of all that we do.  If you find yourself in disagreement with these statements, please seriously consider whether or not you should enroll your child in Union Christian Academy.  We will not compromise on the tenets of our faith.

Educators

Our educators have the responsibility and full accountability of the daily activities in their assigned classroom.  Their responsibilities include curriculum preparation and instruction, student discipline and Christian character development, as well as appropriate interaction with the students’ parents/guardians.  Each educator will have policies and procedures for the management of their individual classroom that underscore and reinforce the values and character of Union Christian Academy.  Each of our educators is expected to be a committed Christian, actively serving in a church.  Our teachers are selected because of their qualifications and proficiency to teach in a given area of study, as well as their reputation both in the classroom and community.  Our elementary and high school teachers are 100% degreed individuals.  All teachers continue to receive training appropriate to their specific certification teaching assignments.  They are the first level authority in issue/conflict resolution in accordance with Matthew 18.

President of the School and Administration

The day-to-day operations of the school is the responsibility of the school administration (Director of Academic Affairs and Director of Student Affairs), under the leadership of the President of the school.  These responsibilities include:  teacher supervision, student retention and discipline, academic supervision, curriculum development, business office management, public relations, parent interaction and involvement, fundraising, and ensuring the overall success of the school by applying biblical principles and providing godly leadership.  The administration is the second level of authority in issue resolution in accordance with Matthew 18.

Board of Directors

Union Christian Academy is operated under the authority of the school’s Board of Directors.  Currently there are eight members of the UCA Board of Directors, elected by the membership (families of enrolled students) of the school.  The Board is responsible for setting strategic school policy, for recruiting, hiring and supporting the school’s administration team, approving faculty recommendations, overseeing the school finances, and strategic planning for future facility and enrollment considerations.  The Board of Directors is the final authority on issue resolution in accordance with Matthew 18.

Evangelism of Students

Union Christian Academy shall accept students from non-Christian families providing the families are in agreement with the purposes and practices of the school.  It shall be the policy of each teacher to give a clear presentation of the Gospel to each student during the course of the year and to know where each child in their class stands in regard to his/her relationship to Christ.  It is the desire of Union Christian Academy that every student have a personal relationship with Christ.

Union Christian Academy’s biblical role is to work in conjunction with the home to mold students to be Christ-like.  On occasion, the atmosphere or conduct within a particular home may be counter or in opposition to the biblical lifestyle the school teaches and represents.  This includes, but is not necessarily limited to, sexual immorality, homosexual sexual orientation, or inability to support the moral principles of the school.  In such cases, the school reserves the right, within its sole discretion, to refuse admission of an applicant, or to expel a student from enrollment.

Statement of Parental Cooperation

Union Christian Academy’s educational mission involves working with the home in the overall Christian education of students.  On occasion, this cooperation between the school and home may become difficult.  To avoid such situations, and for parents to maintain their child’s enrollmlent, the school required that parents support the following statements:

As a parent of a student at Union Christian Academy, I agree to support to support the school with my prayers and positive attitude.  Complaints or negative comments will be shared only with the teacher, president of the school, or person involved and not with my child or other people, following the Matthew 18 principle.

I understand that if at any time the school determines, at its sole discretion, that my actions do not osupport the ministry, or reflect a lack of cooperation and commitment to the home and school working together, the school has the right to request the withdrawal of my child.

Parental Involvement

Parents are asked to participate a minimum of ten hours during the school year in various functions and duties.  These ten hours can be filled as easy as attending open school board meetings, PTO meetings, or helping with any of the variouoos work days and multiple activities/events.  By participating in these hours you will help keep the tuition costs lower, enhance the school’s growth, and even make new friends.  This volunteer time helps to keep tuition costs as low as possible.

Chapel

Students will meet for corporate worship and expression in chapel service at least once each week during the school year.  It shall be an extension of their Christian training, but not the extent of it.  The teacher or a designated individual will be responsible for conducting the chapel service.  A spirit of reverence should be felt in all chapel services.  Attentive, courteous conduct that honors the Lord should be observed at all assemblies.

Prayer

Prayer is a vital ingredient in our program of Christian training.  Students at Union Christian Academy are trained in the importance of establishing a consistent daily prayer life.  Teachers lead the students to understand how God is central to all of life and that continual communicaiton with Him is essential to consistent Christian living.  Students are trained in the habit of prayer throughout the school day:  before beginning the responsibilities of each day, before eating lunch, for special needs, and to give Him praise for all things.  Students are encouraged to make their requests known to God.  Numerous opportunities will be provided to pray with and for one another.

Patriotism

UCA believes that it is important to teach our students to have respect for America and our form of government.  History is taught in a way that encourages students to respect our national heroes.  Students are required to memorize historical, American documents.  The flag is given proper respect in every classroom with pledges spoken daily.

Financial Overview

Christian education is an investment in the lives of our youth.  For many families it is a financial challenge to have their children enrolled in a Christian school.

Because tuition fees do not cover the entire cost of educating a child for one year, additional funds must be raised through special activities and donations.  Each family is expected to participate in these activities.

Anyone considering given a memorial, setting up a trust, establishing an endowment, or donating a significant gift of cash or property to Union Christian Academy should contact the President of the School.

Parents have two options for tuition payment.  First, parents may choose to pay the entire year’s tuition and receive 2% off tuition, excluding building fees, or parents may choose to pay tuition with 11 post-dated checks.  Post-dated checks are to be dated for August through June.  Tuition and registration fees are non-refundable.
